Family Enterprise

The local economy is struggling and Uganda being listed among the developing countries and World Bank's HIPCs (highly-indebeted poor countries). These two reveal that Uganda parents are under intense pressure to make ends meet. Local PENs harness family resources to solve problems affecting local communities. We are using family business as a tool for creating wealth across generations.

Blueprint: Poultry Project

100 birds per parent, 30 parent groups

The poultry for school fees project is been tested in Kayabwe Town (Mpigi District) with a group of 30+ groups (with 300+ parents) convened by Mayor Zedi Kasule (Kayabwe Town). He is the convenor of the Mayor's Investor Roundtable Initiative. Mayor Zedi, a mixed farmer himself, availed his chicken coup which has a capacity of 20,000 chicken for collective rearing exercise.

A Branch Committee of WADEPA has three key roles (ART model) in serving the local Parents as in:

Audit/ Accountability: They ensure value for money fopr the investments ie, did we get what we paid for?
Resourcing: They seek out partners and attract investment into Local Economic Development to stimulate the economy.
Technical Support/ Oversight: Their varied skills and experiences can be put to good use in mentoring and coaching staff.
